DBAS Law Secures Nearly $4 Million Settlement with City of Arcata for Dangerous Roadway that Left Cyclist Paralyzed

Our litigation team reached a $3.9 million settlement on behalf of a bicyclist who suffered life-altering injuries following a collision involving a car in the City of Arcata. The city, located in Humboldt County, recently agreed to pay 54-year-old Laura McNulty and her husband $3.9 million to settle a catastrophic personal injury lawsuit.

McNulty suffered permanent partial paralysis after colliding with the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder SUV on February 8, 2020, on the 700 block of Fickle Hill Road. The defendant driver blocked both lanes of traffic and the bike lane while attempting to back into a designated parking spot, following a posted “Back-in Only” parking sign.

The Arcata City Counsel finalized the settlement in early July 2022.

The plaintiffs’ legal team includes attorneys Daniel Balaban, Andrew Spielberger, Vanessa Loftus-Brewer, and Kahren Harutyunyan with the Los Angeles plaintiff’s firm Balaban Spielberger. The firm has a record of winning personal injury cases involving auto accidents, drugs/ defective medical devices, medical malpractice, school sports injuries, and toxic tort cases.
